Peace Promotion Project (3P)

The post-election violence in January 2008 that scorched Mathare
Valley has opened the eyes of many. The unexpected has
happened and the need to prevent the emergence of future
conflicts is eminent. Many youth in Mathare Valley were involved
in the violence as perpetrators, as victims or as both.
This highlights the fact that programs that are developed to
prevent future violence need to work together with the
youth.Organisations need to involve their ideas, their strategies
and their visions in the design and in the implementation of Peace
Promotion Projects. In the end, this will create ownership among
the youth in the community.
Ample analyses of the past conflicts in Mathare Valley have led
to the conclusion that solutions need to be structural and based
on bottom-up approaches. The Peace Promotion Project (3P)
developed by Maji Mazuri and the Duara Foundation is based on
these conclusions.
Objective
The main objective of 3P is to empower the members of MMYG
to be advocates of human rights and peace ambassadors. This is
done through organizing human rights awareness campaigns,
peace rallies, marches and walks, training on strategies to
enlighten the community on subjects such as child abuse and
neglect, gender violence and offering conflict resolution skills. If
