Talent Program: Stop the Bullet!
Stop
the
Bullet!
“Maji Mazuri has stopped many bullets for our children, the bullet of crime, the bullet
of drugs, the bullet of poverty. My son has a shop and takes care of me while I see
other men who are addicted or who get shot by police.” Mama Dani (mother of a youth
member | Maji Mazuri)

Maji Mazuri and Duara Foundation work together in realising a new and exiting
program for youth in the slum: the
Maji Mazuri Talent Program. Duara Foundation
launches a campaign to raise funds for this project with the slogan:

Stop the Bullet!
Give Talent a Chance.

Maji Mazuri Talent Program: objective
Our overall aim is to fight the destructive ‘slum mentality’ that youth from a very young
age develop when they grow up in a slum community such as Mathare Valley. With
this mentality we mean a mentality within which the image of inferiority that society
imposes on slum communities is internalised by youth in the process of identity
construction. Through the internalisation of this inferiority status youth do not believe
in their individual strength and talents and therefore any opportunity for social and
economic development is paralysed beforehand. We aim to work from strength, not
from weakness, as we profoundly believe in the strength and talents of each and every
individual in society.
